Filipinos Take Home International Beauty Pageant Crowns

International Beauty Pageants

Halfway into 2018, Filipinos are already raking in awards in international beauty pageants.

Miss Eco International 2018 Cynthia Thomalla is not the only Filipino to take home pageant crown this year. Five more Filipinos have made the country proud after winning in international beauty pageants.

Filipinos Dominate International Beauty Pageants

From the first-ever Miss Multinational competition to the long-running Miss Asian International, here are five international beauty pageants that have Filipinos as the grand winner.

Mark Andrew Baron, Mr. Star Model Universe 2018

Mark Andrew Baron

PH bet Mark Andrew Baron, also known as Baron Andrews, emerged as the winner of the first-ever Mr. Star Model Universe competition, which was held in Peru last May 28.

The ramp model flew to the South American country to represent the Philippines in the pageant and was announced the winner, with representatives from Peru and Mexico as runners-up.

In a Facebook post dated May 28, Andrews shared the good news and talked about how he prepared for the competition.

Baron is also an educator, currently teaching social studies at San Rafael Technological High School in Navotas.

Sophia Senoron, Miss Multinational 2017–2018

Sophia Senoron

At 17, Sophia Senoron became the youngest beauty queen to be crowned at the Miss World Philippines last year. Wearing the Miss Multinational Philippines sash, the young beauty was delighted over the win and has been, since then, all ready to represent the country at a bigger pageant.

This year, the now-18-year-old went to India for the first-ever Miss Multinational. Senoron was eventually crowned the winner during the coronation night last February 26.

Young and standing only 5’4″, short in beauty pageant standard, Senoron has always considered herself the underdog of the competition, but this did not stop her from proving to everyone that height should not matter at all. She said that her height even helped her stand out.

Coming close to the crown were Germany’s Saskia Kuban and India’s Shefali Sharma, who were first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.

Gerina Chanel Ancheta, Miss Asian International 2018

Another young Filipino was named winner at an international pageant. Seventeen-year-old Gerina Chanel Ancheta bested eighteen candidates from all around Asia and took home the Miss Asian International 2018 crown at the ceremony held in Bangkok, Thailand, on March 2.

Ancheta, who is currently a senior high school student, was also named Best in National Costume, Miss Smile, Upfront Model Agency choice, and Missosology’s Choice Award.

Ion Perez, Mr. Universe Tourism 2018

Ion Perez

Philippines’s very own Benigno “Ion” Perez gave the country another crown after winning one of the most prestigious international beauty pageants, the Mr. Universe Tourism.

The 27-year-old from Tarlac bested nineteen other men vying for the crown and was announced the winner during the coronation night held in Pasig City on May 29. The managing director of the pageant, Ferdinand Abejon, praised the fashion model for nailing the question-and-answer segment and for displaying a good attitude throughout the run of the event.

Perez is the first Filipino to win the pageant. He was also named Best in Swimwear.

Kaycee Coleen Lim, Miss Summer World 2018

Kaycee Coleen Lim

Kaycee Coleen Lim from Samar, Philippines, became the first Asian to be crowned Miss Summer World. At the final show held in Tirana, Albania, Lim impressed spectators and eventually took home the coveted crown, the first for the Philippines and Asia.

The UK-based lawyer also won the Best National Costume award that same night. Lim took to Facebook to express her happiness over the win, saying, “It was only a dream and now I am finally living the dream. Winning Miss Summer World 2018 in Tirana, Albania, was the sweetest prize for all the hard work and sacrifices I have made. God indeed had a better plan for me. It took Him a while but He has given it to me at His perfect time.”

With a number of crowns under its belt, looks like there’s not stopping our fellow Filipinos from showing the whole world that we are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to beauty pageants.
