As expected, with the announcement made by the Miss World Organization came an influx of comments from netizens asking about the Philippines’s past contenders.

Since the launch of Mister World in 1996, The Philippines has sent a lot of representatives to the biennial pageant. The first to represent the country was Christopher Celis, a then 20-year-old and a college senior. Although a standout, Celis did not make the final cut. In 1998, Rico Lee Miguel flew to Portugal as PH’s official bet. Following him was Roderick Salvador who competed at the 3rd Mr. World pageant held on October 13, 2000, in Venezuela.

Then in 2002, Marco Hetelia Tamayo went to England to represent the country in the 4th edition of Mr. World. Although Tamayo failed to bring home the crown, that did not stop him from joining more contests. Years after his Mr. World stint, Tamayo represented the Philippines at Mr. World Fashion and placed second.

Emmanuel Mago was the next to represent PH. The hunk from Camarines Sur was then a business administration student and a varsity player. He flew to China for Mr. World 2007. Following Mago was Alvin de Joya, who competed at the Mr. World 2010.

In 2012, the Philippines was able to place second at the prestigious pageant thanks to Mr. World-Philippines Andrew Wolff. Wolff, a Filipino-British Rugby Sevens player, made the country proud after finishing second, a first for the country.

Wolff was succeeded by John Spainhour who represented PH in Mr. World 2014. Spainhour was followed by Sam Ajdani, PH bet to Mr. World 2016.

And now that excitement is again building up, Mr. World PH has started the search for the next Pinoy to raise the country’s banner in Mr. World 2018 pageant. And just like everyone else, they are hoping to find the right man who deserves to have the title every young male out there is probably dying to hold.
