Hannah Locsin: the Second Filipina Model to Recently Walk the Gucci Runway

“I was freaking out!” Hannah Locsin told Lifestyle Inquirer as she recalled the moment when she found out she was chosen to walk for Gucci.

Hannah Locsin made a huge debut at the Milan Fashion Week by walking for the Gucci Spring-Summer 2020 collection. She graced the Milan catwalk as she donned a tea-length apple-green ensemble with a pair of black latex gloves, oversized hexagonal sunnies, and a freshly chopped blunt bob.

“It was so exciting,” she said of the atmosphere at the  Gucci show. “They take care of every little detail. And the models are super nice and diverse.”

Though this was her first Milan Fashion Week and Gucci appearance, it definitely was not her first international modeling stunt.

Hannah Locsin studied at St. Pedro Poveda for high school and finished communication arts at De La Salle University. She’s a member of the Professional Models Association of the Philippines. She is a foodie and has a sweet tooth, but due to the demands of modeling, she has had to control her cravings.

“In preparation for fashion week, I was more careful with what I ate,” she said. “But it’s so hard to resist sometimes!”

The competitive European modeling industry

The 23-year-old model was on the first plane out to Europe to pursue her modeling dreams just after graduating college two years ago. She was first based in Paris, then she spent a couple of months in London. Sounds glamorous but Hannah admits that it was difficult for her to secure jobs because there are too many models in Europe.

“Competitive is an understatement,” said Hannah Locsin. “You cannot imagine how many models there are. That’s why it’s very, very competitive. There are models from all over the world and their expectations are very high as well.”

Hannah Locsin recalled a moment when she was close to being part of the show of a Paris fashion house. “I was already at the designer’s office for a fitting,” she said, “but sadly, I didn’t make the final cut.”

Among Asians, she added, it was the Chinese who got the jobs.

The beginning of her career

But just last year, she was officially welcomed into the Woman Management agency, the same international agency that signed top models like Coco Rocha, Behati Prinsloo, Jourdan Dunn, Winnie Harlow, and Kate Moss!

Hannah Locsin has since then appeared in a fashion editorial on Vogue Italia; on the catwalk for London Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, and Hyères Fashion Festival; on the ads of Bershka, Galeries Lafayette, TRESemmé, and Amarium; and in a beauty campaign for Charlotte Tilbury.

The Gucci runway

Last month, Hannah Locsin had another scheduled shoot, but she had to decline because she said she needed to fly back to Milan. Why Not, a modeling agency in Milan, landed her the Gucci show.

All the while, she kept quiet about her Gucci gig.

“I didn’t want to say anything yet because I was scared it might get canceled,” she said.

Her Gucci look inspired a fashion illustration by Jodarte, the artist who did the art for British Vogue‘s #1YearNewVogue Covers Illustrated

“No words can explain how much this means to me,” she told Metro.Style. “Debuting Gucci at MFW is a major dream come true.”

Hannah is the second Filipina to walk for Gucci, after Marga Esquivel.
